Hello everyone,
That was a fabulous meet last night. Thank you to all of our
volunteers for helping us have such a successful evening!

We have just a few announcements for you. One of YOTA' s( Raleigh
year round Swim Team)Head Age Group coaches will be running a swim
clinic at our pool tonight. He will work with each of the pracitce
groups during their regularly scheduled practice.

Also too, with a holiday weekend quickly approaching, the volunteer
coordinators and the coaches need to know as soon as possible if you
are not going to be here for our meet next week in Garner. This is
our travel meet( I am guessing this is about a 30 min. drive from
here). The directions are posted on the website under the meet
section. cvswimteam.weebly.com/directions-to-other-pools.html.
Please let us know if you CAN NOT make it.

We wish all of our Crocodiles going to represent our neighborhood at
Cary City, THE VERY BEST OF LUCK!

Morning Practice 06/05/2008

Parents,

We think that the pool has finally warmed up enough to begin morning
practices. Effective June 9, we will begin running morning practices
from 7:30 to 8:30. We are encouraging all elementary students and
those children on track 1 to attend. As the thermometer creeps up,
the pool usage increases as well. In the evenings, we are trying to
leave some pool space open for those neighbors who are not on the swim
team. In order to reduce the number of lanes used, we are asking you
to consider attending the earlier practice.

The coaches have also informed the older kids that if they are seen
roughhousing in the shallow section before practice, they will be
suspended from the team for the rest of the week. There are too many
small children swimming in this area for this type of behavior to
continue. Please remind your swimmers that this will not be tolerated
by the coaching staff.

We are having so much fun watching your children improve!

Mock Meet 06/05/2008

Greetings Crocodiles,
Brookstone cordially invites you to a night of swimming and fun on
June 6, at 5:00. The swim meet will begin promptly at 5:30. All
individual events will be swum first, followed by a medley relay from
each age group. The night will end with some fun relays(i.e the
noodle relay, tee shirt relay, and the kick board relay). Parents are
encouraged to wear their swim suits as they will also be participating
in some of these relays. This will not be a scored meet. The purpose
of this meet is to get times on all of the swimmers.

There will be a full snack bar available so bring your appetite.

Your child's assigned number for the season is in the attachment.
Look at the last column to the right(i.d.). Please make sure your
child has this number written largely with a sharpie marker on their
upper arms and back before the start of each meet this season. This
will allow the timers to identify who your child is.

After arriving at Brookstone, look for our designated team area. We
will have signs indicating where your swimmer is to report. We will
also have a volunteer station near our team area. For those of you
who have signed up to volunteer, your equipment will be available
there.

**A Note from the coaches....Parents, we would like you to encourage
your children to swim all of the strokes. The coaches use this
information to create line ups for upcoming meets!

We look forward to seeing you all there!

Week 2 Review 05/30/2008

CV  Crocodiles Parents,

we are approaching the end of the second week of practice. The team is looking great and I am expecting a great season! We, the coaching staff, worked with the swimmers on the basics of swimming, techniques, many stroke drills and some endurance. As we march towards the first Meet, we need to change the practice plan to focus on getting the swimmers to a competitive level.

Two things are going to happen tomorrow, May 30:

First, we will talk to the swimmers before practice starts and we will set our main goal as a Team. The goal is to win at least one meet this year. We will also ask each swimmer to set personal goal(s). For instance: learn a particular stroke; win a heat; improve time and etc...

Second, we will be assessing your children. All swimmers must be able to dive/jump into the water by themselves and swim unassisted for at least 15 yards. After the assessment we will be making recommendations.

See you tomorrow,

The coaching staff

Mock Meet 05/29/2008

Hello Crocodiles,

We just wanted to send you a note to remind you that our first meet (mock meet) will be next Friday, June 6th, at Brookstone.  This meet will start promptly at 5:30( we may have a few minutes to get in between 5:00 and 5:30 but the actual meet will begin at 5:30).  For those of you who are new to the team, this is a meet designed to get a base time on all of our swimmers and to show them how a swim meet works. For more information about swim meets, please refer back to the cheat sheet that we gave you in your registration packet.  We will be swimming medley relays, but not free relays( we will go over the order of  strokes with your swimmers in practice).

We also wanted to remind you that your child will be assigned a number next week. This will be the same number that they have all summer.  We ask that you use a sharpie marker to write this number largely on the top of both arms.  We use this number when recording their times.

If you are unable to make it to this meet, please email Coach Ghazaleh. His email is listed in our website (cvswimteam.weebly.com).  We will get times on your swimmers in practice.

Parents of 6 and under swimmers,  we will be further assessing your children in the coming days.  They really need to be able to jump into the water by themselves.  They also need to swim unassisted for at least a few yards.  We recommend that you take them to the pool and have them practice doing this with you as much as possible.  The other option you may want to consider is some private lessons.  Triangle swim school is listed on our website.  They may be able to further assist your child. Swim meets have 3 events for 6 and under  swimmers. These events include 15 yards of freestyle, 15 yards of backstroke, and 15 yards of breaststroke.

We will be training volunteers at this meet as well.  If you have not signed up to help out, we encourage you to do so.  This is a training meet!  Please email Tina Ruff or Sherri Worthington(emails on website) if you are interested in learning how to do some of the different volunteer positions.  Remember that volunteering is absolutely essential to our program.

Our swimmers look great this year!  We are going to "Croc on" this season!

See you at the pool.

1st week review 05/29/2008

Hello CV Crocodiles,

Great job on our first week of practice! The water was cold, but everybody was strong getting into the water. This shows your commitment to the team. Commitment is essential for our success! I am very proud of you!
As we advance to the second week, we will continue to work on stroke techniques and endurance. Thursday, the 29th, is Backstroke Clinic day. Friday, the 30th, will be the first of a series of six Endurance Days. You will be asked to swim as many laps as you can for 45 minutes. I will swim the endurance along with the 11 and up group. As we progress to end of the season you will be able to compare the number of laps you swam on each Endurance Day. You will see how much progress you made and how much better you became.
The day before each meet will be the Carburetor Day. Carburetor Day is when you fine-tune your strokes and prepare yourself for the Meet Day.

The last day of practice you will be challenged by the coaches for a 25 or 50 Yards race. Can you beat the coaches? I will give away a prize to whoever beats the Head Coach*.

See you tomorrow,
Coach David
