Coach, Judge and Starter Clinics

Stroke and Turn Clinic: Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 7:00 - 9:00 at Oxxford Hunt Learn to recognize correct and incorrect stroke techniques and turns and finishes, how and when to write DQ slips, and more. The Stroke and Turn Clinic is required each year for anyone in your club who will be serving as a stroke and turn judge. In the past, we have not made exceptions for current USA officials, primarily because there were significant differences in the 2 sets of stroke rules. Recognizing that the differences are fewer now, we'd like to make an exception this season on a trial basis. This year attendance by currently certified USA, YMCA, and NCAA officials is optional. In lieu of attendance, a current USA/YMCA/NCAA certified official may register for TSA certification with Ira Planer, TSA Vice-president, by e-mail, iplaner@nc.rr.com. Ira will communicate rule differences to these judges and that will certify them for this season. The deadline for these individuals to notify Ira is May 25. When Ira distributes the list of TSA certified stroke and turn judges, it will include everyone who attended a clinic and those USA/YMCA/NCAA officials who registered by email before May 25.

Remember, in accordance with the rules, teams without a certified Stroke and Turn must notify the opposing TSA Representative that they don't have a Certified Stroke and Turn Judge. As qualified as possible volunteer will be solicited (from either team.)

Starter Clinic: Tuesday, May 27, 2008 from 7:00-8:00 PM at Medfield Pool in Raleigh/Cary Attendance is recommended for those volunteers who will be acting as the starter for your home meets. While not mandatory, we strongly recommend your starters participate in this clinic. Learn to start fairly, consistently and efficiently, to facilitate the flow of a meet, and more. A strong starter provides a relaxed, consistent start for each race and keeps the meet moving along at a good pace.
